In one of a series of visits that Prime Minister Robert Abela is making on projects around Malta and Gozo, he visited the first national observatory in Nadur and the works carried out at the Qala stadium.
In Nadur, the Prime Minister heard how after a study commissioned by the University of Malta, it was established that the Gozitan coast is the most adequate site to host this first national optical observatory of its kind in our country.
An observatory that was installed by the EkoGozo directorate in collaboration with the Institute of Space Science and Astronomy (ISSA) within the University of Malta. The Prime Minister Robert Abela had the opportunity to meet with Professor Joseph Caruana, astrophysicist and coordinator of the project where he explained in more detail the importance of such a project for the scientific field, research and innovation.
He also spoke to a number of students who were present during the visit and who shared their thoughts on the project. The observatory will be serving as a training facility and many students from educational institutions in our country can strengthen their abilities in relation to the subjects they are studying and roaming in. The Prime Minister noted how such a project is responding to today’s educational needs and through which the educational experience will be strengthened for these students who are trained in the subjects of science, physics, astronomy and other related.
In another visit, the Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the works carried out in the Qala stadium through which a new synthetic turf was installed, while other restructuring work was carried out in various facilities in this stadium.
The Prime Minister had the opportunity to speak with the leadership of the Qala football club and with several players. He noted that the infrastructural improvements in this field will improve the quality of life of those who make use of it and continue to raise the level of professionalism expected from the athletes. The infrastructural works at the Qala stadium involved the leveling and laying of turf that meets the latest FIFA quality standards.
With this project it forms part of a series of other projects that are currently being carried out in Gozo in the sports field. During the visits, Prime Minister Robert Abela was accompanied by the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti.
