During his official visit to Ethiopia, the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg was invited by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali for several meetings and visits to various projects currently being done in Ethiopia.
After the official visit of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia to our country a few weeks ago, Malta accepted the official invitation so that the discussions could continue in Addis Ababa, particularly regarding commercial relations. Among the projects which were shown was the Science Museum and the Entoto Park, among others.
During this visit, the exploratory discussions regarding Malta’s potential collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines continued. Dr Borg and the Maltese delegation had a meeting with CEO Mesfin Tasew. This airline has more than 170 aircrafts and is considered one of the five largest airlines in the world.
As part of the official programme Minister Borg also launched a Maltese project called ‘Connected Classrooms’. Through a Development Assistance initiative, direct cooperation is being created between the Kidane Mehret school in Addis Ababa, a school that was built by the Maltese more than 100 years ago and has since been managed by the Maltese, and the Mater Boni Cosili St. Joseph School in Paola. This programme is serving to create more opportunities of educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries and through digital technology, Maltese teachers are assisting in the teaching of the English language. “Projects like these show the work that the Maltese Government is doing in order to assist and help in the development of other countries,” claimed Minister Borg.
