The San Vincenzo de Paul Hospital now has another renovated ward, that of St Joseph Ward 1, through an investment of one million euros. This was announced by the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela in a news conference, as it was explained that this regeneration took place as part of the regeneration plan at the San Vincenzo de Paul Hospital.
This plan is spread over a period of 5 years and through it 18 halls have already been renovated. It was explained that in this particular hall the need was felt for the renovation to also accommodate elderly couples. Apart from beautifying the general appearance of the hall, considerable improvements were made and all services were removed, such as water services, electricity, drainage, a more hygienic vinyl flooring was made, nurse call systems were also installed, lights, fire and emergency alarm systems and medical oxygen was introduced into the rooms.
It was also explained that each room also has a private accessible bathroom and the lounge is suitable for people with dementia. The air conditioning and ventilation systems are new, efficient and pollute less, as well as the ceilings help in managing the acoustics and have a material that does not catch fire quickly.
The courtyard of this hall was also changed to a more accessible and safer one. All the medical equipment was also changed, from new electric beds to lifters, trolleys and others that have to do with the direct care of the elderly. “It is important to keep the environment where the elderly live as healthy as possible and in the best way possible so that we always ensure a better quality of life,” concluded Minister Abela.
