Minister Byron Camilleri was present at the end of a training course on protocols related to children spread over four days which was given by two officers from London’s Thames Valley Police.
For this training organized by the Foundation from Darkness to Light together with the High Commission of the United Kingdom, sixteen participants attended which included members of the Police Vice Squad, the Agency for the Support of Victims and social workers from the child protection unit. During the training days several themes were discussed including crime among children and young people, the risks involved and the strengthening of work and coordination between different agencies.
Minister Camilleri praised this initiative between the Foundation from Darkness to Light and the High Commission of the United Kingdom and stated how cooperation in such a delicate sector is very important. He claimed that in cases of crime among children and young people it is important to use the best practices and give all possible help from the early stages so that these people do not end up being caught in the wider circles of crime. He encouraged training of this type to continue because everyone in the sector must continue to learn and update themselves. Later Minister Camilleri presented a certificate of participation to all participants. Present for the closing ceremony of the training were the British Deputy High Commissioner Tristan Gilchrist and George Busuttil, Chairperson of the Darkness to Light Foundation.
