The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights continued to strengthen its relationship with various non-governmental organizations that assist vulnerable people in the community.
This time the ministry will be entering into a new social agreement with Dar Hosea, a residence that welcomes and helps vulnerable women. This was announced by the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon during a news conference.
It was explained that this agreement amounts to €74,880 over a period of three years, and through which an additional service of a full time social worker will be provided, while more than 2,000 hours of social work will be provided to people in need this help.
In the last months, the Dar Hosea residence has seen more than 100 people victims of prostitution and the web of other problems in which these people are involved, including addictions such as drug taking and gambling. It was also explained that a team of professionals and volunteers give support, a safe environment and hope to these women, who are even sometimes accompanied by minors, when they ask for assistance.
“Such agreements confirm the government’s commitment and work in the social field. This is with the aim of not letting anyone fall behind, and therefore the need to continue investing in a society that understands, helps and respects everyone. Each and every one of them can leave a positive impact on that individual or family that is going through difficult times and we should do this by not judging the victims and what they are going through,” concluded Minister Michael Falzon.
