Due to the storm which struck Malta during the last four days, Enemalta received more than 700 reports of various damages, which include electricity supply cuts, pole damage and wire cuts among others.
As soon as the country had a storm forecast, EneMalta prepared itself by allocating teams additional staff to be ready to help customers who ask for help. Along with the aid teams that are working 24 hours a day, increased around 50% more workers for the last few days.
Where the weather conditions and strong winds allowed, the damages reported during the storm cleared in the following hours, before the weather cleared. However, it was there situations, especially repairs of lines at height, where it was not possible for the workers do the necessary works without the danger caused by the wind.
Fortunately, Saturday’s good weather is giving Enemalta’s engineers and technicians a breather. and allowed them to work on these repairs that could not be done before during the storm. On Saturday morning Enemalta had nine teams focused only on storm repairs, to complete them as soon as possible.
This fast pace of repairs will continue tomorrow Sunday and at the beginning of the week incoming so that even those damages that are not necessarily affecting the supply to the customers, will be rectified without delay.
The extreme storm of the last three days caused significant damage to the electricity infrastructure, as can be seen from the large amount of reports that have come in from the public. While she regrets it for any inconvenience that may have arisen due to these faults, Enemalta reiterates its commitment its to continue to strengthen the electricity distribution system, in order to give the best possible service to its approximately 350,000 customers in Malta and Gozo.
