In the coming weeks, a group of students who are training in basketball and athletics will go to a training camp in Portugal, a group of swimming and artistic swimming will go to France, while two football groups are going Portugal and two other football groups Serbia.
Also in the coming months, a martial arts group will have the opportunity to go to Japan. These are all opportunities that are being given to the students of the National Sports School so that while they get training in the sports discipline they are following, they also have the opportunity to meet other athletes and sportsmen to enrich their experiences.
Towards the end of last year groups of students already went to Portugal in the disciplines of artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, triathlon, cycling, handball and another group of squash students in Spain.
“I believe in the importance of the full development of young people and therefore we are ensuring that they are given the necessary tools not only for their academic studies, but also to continue developing in their sporting discipline and continue to achieve both personal and for Malta”, said the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima when he visited the school to give details about these training camps.
He said that the government is committed to providing students with vast educational knowledge both academically and related to sports. This is why the government is giving various opportunities through which students are encouraged to pursue and invest in their sporting skills. He thanked all those who at the National Sports School are working and striving to give the best academic-sports education to the students of the school.
The National Sports School has the fundamental role of developing determined student-athletes who are able to succeed. Success stories are linked to it, as we have seen over the years that it has been established – this year is the 11th year of operation of this school. The school leads students to eventually succeed in making Malta proud by competing in prestigious sporting activities while offering the best services to Maltese society as professionals working in various fields.
Head of School Robert Magro said: “We are seeing that we give all the help possible so that students have opportunities to explore careers related to sport, which can open up opportunities for them both locally and abroad.
