A 35-year-old Nigerian was arrested shortly after arriving at Malta International Airport when police became suspicious of his behavior.
Although police officers searched the man, who had just arrived from Brussels, they did not find him to be carrying anything illegal but a further search by a police dog gave officers cause for concern.
The suspect was taken to Mater Dei Hospital where an x-ray showed him to have more than 100 capsules in his stomach.
These contained what officers believed to be cocaine, with a street value of €130,000.
