With reference to the statement issued by the Nationalist Party regarding the lack of supply of some medicines in the country, the Ministry of Health clarifies that the situation is under control, so much so that medicines mentioned by the PN are in – fact in stock at the CPSU.
The Ministry notes that while the shortage in the supply of various medicines is being felt on an international level, with a shortage of various medicines registered these days in 25 out of 27 countries in the European Union, the Maltese Health Authorities are working to ensure adequate supplies of medicines for Maltese and Gozitan patients.
Therefore, the Ministry of Health is reassuring patients who use Aspart, Galvus, Latanoprost, Creon and Goserelin Injection, (mentioned in the PN statement) that the Central Procurement and Supplies Unit ( CPSU) received the necessary deliveries and that these are being distributed in POYC pharmacies around Malta and Gozo during this week.
With regard to antibiotics, the CPSU is ensuring the supply of these medicines, or their equivalents, as well. In recent weeks the Ministry of Health has held a number of meetings with the European Commission regarding the difficulties in the supply of medicines throughout Europe in order to ensure that Malta has equal access to medicines as the member states large of the European Union.
The Ministry of Health, while thanking the continuous efforts of the CPSU to support the needs of Maltese patients, condemns partisan statements that create unnecessary alarm among patients.
