The Prime Minister Robert Abela attends a Summit between the Leaders of the Member States and of the Western Balkans, in Tirana
In Tirana, Albania, Prime Minister Robert Abela attended and addressed a Summit between the Leaders of the countries of the European Union and those of the countries of the Western Balkans. In the first Summit of its kind in a Balkan country, the leaders discussed various themes including the impact of the war in Ukraine, strengthening security and resilience against foreign interference, energy, immigration, the fight against terrorism and organized crime and the importance of partnership and strategic cooperation between the European Union and the Western Balkans.
The Maltese Prime Minister welcomed the fact that the European Union is allocating a billion euros to meet the energy crisis and help in the clean core of the use of energy in the Balkan region. In comments at the end of the Summit, Dr. Abela also noted the fact that this strategy of help lessens the impact, has been adopted by Malta so that families and businesses in our country continued to enjoy from stable energy and fuel prices. The Prime Minister explained how this policy of the Maltese Government continued to lead to economic and social stability in our country but above all confidence from those who are increasing investment.
Regarding energy, the Prime Minister also recalled other actions that the European Union took to meet the impacts from the war in Ukraine, including the preparation for the security of the food supply and the -agreement on a mechanism for the joint purchase of gas and a strategy to reduce the impact of the increase in gas and energy prices, which was reached in a European Council that met in Brussels at the end of October.
