Minister Attard attends the Council of Ministers of Justice of the European Union

“Judicial training is not only important for the continuous development of judicial competence but is effectively one of the foundations in improving the quality of justice. This helps in strengthening citizens’ trust in national judicial systems, as well as increasing mutual trust in cross-border judicial proceedings.”

This was said by the Minister for Justice Jonathan Attard while he was addressing the Council of Ministers of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. During this council, several topics of the highest priority on the European agenda were discussed including the training of the judiciary and the judicial response to the crimes that are being committed in the conflict between the Russians and the Ukrainians.

During the meeting, Minister Attard expressed the commitment of the Maltese Government in the training of the judiciary – the same commitment was made in the electoral manifesto which today is the work plan. Minister Attard explained that the Committee on Judicial Studies is doing a very good job in this field so much so that in the last year the members of the judiciary have attended a considerable number of courses, seminars, and conferences quality.

Minister Attard also had a number of informal discussions where it was possible to notice the interest in the reforms that the Maltese Government is working on, including that linked to the media and journalism.
