In a pre-Budget meeting with the Chamber of Small and Medium Businesses (Chamber of SMEs) in the Berga of Castile, Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that as a government we must continue to believe in investment and support of the productive capacity of our country.
Dr. Abela said that at a time when in other European countries, businesses are being stopped from continuing to work by cutting off their electricity supply due to a crisis in the energy sector, Malta has obtained derogations so that enterprises can continue to work without hindrance and in our country the biggest subsidies in Europe are being given in the mentioned field.
Prime Minister Abela said that this is being done with responsibility and because the government believes that after the energy crisis passes, the businesses in our country will be in a position to take the opportunities of recovery.
The Prime Minister Robert Abela noted the resilience of the Maltese economy and how when the businesses found the support of the government, they remained able to meet the unprecedented challenges.
“In the face of an international crisis, small and medium-sized businesses have found support and have shown that they can be very dynamic and turn challenges into opportunities”, said Prime Minister Abela, stressing the need to continue diversifying an economy where small and medium enterprises remain the engine of economic growth.
The President of the Chamber of SMEs Paul Abela acknowledged the government’s help in electricity, fuel and gas and noted the achievement of derogations so that Malta does not experience a reduction in productivity.
While a number of proposals were presented, the Chamber of SMEs delivered a message in favor of sustainability in the work sector.
Ministers Clyde Caruana, Silvio Schembri, Miriam Dalli, Parliamentary Secretary Andy Ellul and Government Deputy Chris Agius were also present at this meeting.
