A new private fertility clinic – HOPE Clinic – which is offering assisted procreation services to Maltese and foreign clients was inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne and the Minister for the Environment, Energy and the Miriam Dalli Enterprise.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Malta already offers a service of the highest level, free of charge to the Maltese through the ART Clinic inside the Mater Dei hospital, and therefore this private clinic can complement the existing service and further strengthen Malta’s name in this field on an international level. He announced that since the Maltese Authority for the Protection of Embryos started collecting statistics, until now 434 babies have been born in the country through assisted procreation services, while there are around 40 other pregnant women through the use of the same services.
Chris Fearne stated that the necessary tenders are currently being finalized so that the Mater Dei Hospital acquires the necessary technology in order to offer the PGTM service where he indicated, free of charge, that it was made possible through the amendments in the law of IVF earlier this year – this while the professionals who will be providing this service are being trained.
The foreign direct investment of around €1 million from HOPE Clinic continues to strengthen the field of life sciences in our country where Malta Enterprise continues to attract investment.
“The life sciences sector is a resilient sector that continues to register growth. In the past months, investment in this sector from manufacturing, research and development facilities, and startups, exceeded €80 million. This investment was possible thanks to the work of Malta Enterprise which is working in favor of new economic niches such as biopharms and life sciences technology”, said Minister Miriam Dalli.
