The Police Force and the Armed Forces of Malta achieved an important milestone in their work in favor of the citizen after a Eurobarometer study showed how the Maltese and Gozitan people have the highest rate of trust in the Police Force in the last ten years and in the Armed Forces of Malta since statistics began to be collected.
In fact, the study commissioned by European Union institutions shows 80% confidence in the Armed Forces of Malta, an increase of 8% on the previous study. The same study shows 69% confidence in the Police, which means a jump of 15% on the previous Eurobarometer report. This result means that Malta is at the European table when it comes to trust in the Police Force while trust in the Army exceeds the European average by 9%.
The Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri stressed that this survey is confirmation that the people are appreciating more the role and commitment of the disciplinary bodies to provide a better service to the citizens. Minister Camilleri also noted the work against organized crime and drug trafficking, while the Community Police project continued to be expanded so that today we already have three quarters of the country covered by this -project. Minister Camilleri also recalled how the body started to provide a new service aimed at victims of crime. This is also in a context that from last year to today, crimes have decreased by almost 7%.
Minister Byron Camilleri also noted how in the Armed Forces of Malta strong investment work continued in the tools and equipment used by FAM members. This is also leading to better trained workers. Above all, an investment was made in the workers where with €8.2 million more per year, the soldiers are seeing a strong improvement in their conditions.
“This is not the point of arrival but a confirmation of how much we can continue to build on the good that has been done and continues to be done in recent years. This is a confirmation that the renewal in the Disciplinary Bodies is serving so that people are trusting the forces of order more. Our commitment is to continue to provide the tools and resources so that the forces of order continue to work in favor of the safety of the people”, concluded Minister Camilleri.
