An investment of around €20,000 led to extensive works being carried out over a period of months in a building that serves as a youth center in Luqa, managed by the Luqin Youth Voluntary Association, Luqa Youth Centre.
In this center work is carried out that makes a positive difference in the lives of around 30 young teenagers, where in addition to information sessions covering various themes, charitable activities are also organised.
The inauguration of the project was done by the Minister for Inclusion, Volunteering and Consumer Rights Julia Farrugia Portelli and by the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti.
Minister Farrugia Portelli described this event as one of satisfaction on several levels. Among them, to see young people, who are both the present and the future of the country, involved in work through which they make the lives of other young people much better.
Minister Farrugia Portelli added that volunteering is one of the main pillars that over the years has shaped and continues to shape Maltese society. “It is therefore gratifying when I see young people participating in volunteering because they are insurance for sustainability in this sector.” Minister Farrugia Portelli concluded by saying that the government, while valuing the participation of young people and voluntary organisations, is committed to providing the necessary tools to foster strong values and to make people’s lives better.
Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti said that it is gratifying to see an investment in a center like this being equipped for young people. “This shows how committed the government is to continue investing in the present and the future of young people to continue to be helped to reach their peak and face the challenges in this very important phase in their lives”. repeated the parliamentary secretary.
The Chief Executive of the MCVS Mauro Pace Parascandolo stressed that the aim of all help, both financial and training and support given by the MCVS is to strengthen and sustain the voluntary organizations in their work in the community . He added that through these aids the voluntary associations can not only continue their work but strengthen it and offer it in a more modern and professional way.
The President of Luqa Youth Center Nicolette Aquilina explained that through this project, young people can enjoy a new and accessible hall, in a modern environment that reflects the young spirit of the union. She invited the young people who have just been Confirmed as Bishops or who are over 13 years old, to celebrate this change with them by coming to the meetings held every Friday evening at 8:30p .m. She encouraged those who want more information to visit the center’s social media page.
The project was possible through funds released by the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector.
Present for the inauguration of the project were the Permanent Secretary Nancy Caruana and the Mayor of Ħal Luqa John Schembri.
