On the occasion of the International Youth Day, which this year has the theme “Intergenerational Solidarity”, an agreement was signed between the Youth Agency and the Relationships Are Forever Foundation to develop “Our Journey Cards”. Their goal is to continue assisting young people to live a happier life and be able to reflect, make good choices, and emphasize their values and principles together with adults.
This collaboration will also give importance to the human resources that are so crucial in the development of young people, among them, the youth workers. Therefore this agreement also includes funding to support adults working with young people.
The Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima said that solidarity between generations is essential for sustainable development, and therefore we must continue to collaborate to strengthen relationships and partnerships successful and fair intergenerational programs to ensure that “no one is left behind.” Age presents a challenge in strengthening collaboration and solidarity between generations, and therefore it is our responsibility to bring the generations together”, said Minister Grima.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti stressed the importance of young people in every social aspect and in making decisions that have an impact on living and their development. “Therefore the policy that we politicians employ is crucial for young people and during decision-making it is important to always keep their voice in the background of the process.”
The CEO of the Youth Agency Miriam Teuma encouraged the young people to embrace the value of solidarity towards adults and let them know their experiences. “I call on adults who are in high leadership positions to develop opportunities for young people to join the two voices for sustainable change in a cooperative spirit.”
One of the founders of Relationships Are Forever, Julian Sant, said that “The “Our Journey Cards” are developed with the aim of helping young people and adults to strengthen their character and build meaningful relationships with around them.”
The International Youth Day was established by the United Nations with the aim that young people have access to more opportunities to strengthen their skills while their rights are protected. This year the chosen theme emphasizes dignity for all ages.
With this partnership today will continue to strengthen the implementation of the National Youth Policy which has the strategic objective of facilitating the transitions of young people in the process of adult life.
Present for this celebration was the representative from the National Youth Council Jacob Callus.
