With effect from the second of next August, Maltese law will be introducing new rights that ensure a better quality of life for Maltese families. These rights concern paternity leave, parental leave and carers’ leave.
During a visit that the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul had to the offices of the Mediterranean Insurance Brokers in Qormi, he explained that these new rights will give a better quality of life to the workers and their families. He stressed that with effect from next Tuesday, the law will be incorporating four new rights: ten days of paternity leave, four months’ leave for parents of which two months will be paid , five days carers’ leave and the right to flexibility in the workplace.
Parliamentary Secretary Andy Ellul said that these rights will be creating a balance between the realities of the employer and the employee. He stated that these rights are only the beginning and that the Government is committed to continue building on them so that the conditions of the workers continue to improve.
For his part, the Director of the company Tonio Briffa said that the new rights that will come into force will be complementing the incentives offered by Mediterranean Insurance Brokers to ensure an adequate balance between work and a family. He welcomed the new rights and said that they will give more flexibility to parents and those who take care of their relatives.
