VisitMalta will be the sponsor of the Maltese football teams in this year’s UEFA competitions. The teams that will represent our country: Hibernians, Floriana, Ħamrun Spartans, Gżira United, as well as the women’s team of Birkirkara, will benefit from a financial aid of € 10,000.
VisitMalta will have visibility on the official jerseys of these same teams through Hibernians in Ireland, Floriana in Moldova, Hamrun Spartans in Armenia, Gżira in San Marino, and the women’s team of Birkirkara once the UEFA Women’s Champions League draw takes place.
These details were announced at a press conference addressed by the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo as well as by the Chief Executive of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef and the President of the Malta Football Association Bjorn Vassallo.
Minister Clayton Bartolo said that in recent years the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) has embarked on an intensive advertising program with the aim of enhancing the prospects of tourist arrivals to the Maltese Islands. “It’s nice to have a Maltese product, in this case the Maltese teams, which when they go to play in the UEFA competitions in a few more weeks will not only fly the flag of their club but also the Maltese one”, he continued says Minister Bartolo.
Chief Executive Carlo Micallef mentioned that this is one of the many initiatives of the MTA, aimed at investing in sports, in particular football, so that they can attract tourism to our country throughout the year, thanks to the media coverage that sport provides in Europe and beyond.
“During the year the MTA also works to host teams of various sports disciplines, for training camps, where they will have the chance to enjoy the beauty of the country as well. Through the agreement with these football clubs, the VisitMalta brand will have a high visibility on the European media – a brand that is of great importance for the promotion of Malta and Gozo as an ideal destination for all kinds of tourists “, said Carlo Micallef.
Meanwhile, the President of the Malta Football Association Bjorn Vassallo wished that the adventure of the Maltese teams in Europe would not only serve as participation but would be one that would bring positive results for Maltese football.
