Infrastructure work will be completed on the sports facilities at the Żokrija school

The project to replace the surface of the sports facility at the Maria Reġina School in Mosta, known as the Żokrija, has been completed, part of an infrastructure project of just under € 1 million spread over 20 schools. The Żokrija project was carried out with an investment of € 350,000.

In these 20 schools, the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS) is covering the sports facilities with artificial turf. In recent years, the foundation has invested in artificial turf in several other schools. At this school, the project also involved the construction of the parking roof under the school grounds, where it needed to be rebuilt.

These projects are being carried out against the background of national policies to address childhood obesity, as well as to further foster a children’s sports culture that leads to a better quality of life in schools.

“This project is part of the work we are doing to improve not only the indoor infrastructure in our schools, but also the open spaces that are used for sports activities and leisure time. We want to ensure that these sports education spaces are also adequate, so through this project we are giving them a better look and modernizing them, “said the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research. and Clifton Grima Innovation when he visited the Zokrija project.

Also present during the visit were FTS Chief Executive Dr Neville Young, Maria Queen College Principal Patrick Decelis and Head of School Michael Vassallo.
