Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela participated in a Ministerial Conference held in Rome hosted by UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe).
During this conference on aging, the systematic integration of various topics related to active aging into the policy of each government was discussed.
It was said that this should be done nationally and even regionally.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained the achievements and innovative developments that have already taken place in the field of active aging in Malta and Gozo.
He promised that the Maltese Government is committed to continue investing in more research, improvements, and the introduction of more services that guarantee a better quality of life to all the elderly.
He also mentioned that Malta is even giving priority to the ‘fourth age’ —this is that band of people who cannot leave their homes or live in long-term facilities and therefore cannot reach the centers of – active seniority.
“Older people but young at heart who are more vulnerable, as well as older people with mobility challenges, also need to take part in activities. Our ministry is committed to increasing these opportunities for those who fall into this so-called ‘fourth age’ band both in residences and through the use of the media for those who are at home “, concluded Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
