94 Freeport Corporation employees began to enjoy a 2.5% annual increase in their salary, as a new collective agreement was signed today between the Corporation and the General Workers’ Union.
The collective agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister for the Economy, European Funds and Lands Silvio Schembri and will be applicable from January this year.
Through this collective agreement, in addition to an increase in wages, workers will also be enjoying further benefits including increases in allowances, increased training, and improvements in other conditions.
“In the economy we talk a lot about the investments we make as a country to incentivize industry, but without a doubt one of the best investments we can make is in you workers,” said Minister Silvio Schembri.
He explained the importance of this port through which 85% of all imports of our country pass and mentioned how during the pandemic this work continued uninterrupted.
Minister Silvio Schembri thanked the General Workers’ Union for always supporting the workers. “Even in the face of pandemic challenges, I have always found them shoulder to shoulder to do everything necessary for the well-being of our workers and our economy,” said Minister Silvio Schembri.
