Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli opened the second training session aimed at local councils in urban localities. This programme is funded by the Small Grants Scheme through Norwegian Funds. The main aim of this programme is to address inequality and challenges related to the socio-economic situation in urban localities.
This project offers urban local councils the opportunity to conduct different projects that address regeneration, economic and social challenges within the locality. This training programme includes a Manual of Procedures for the implementation of projects and is aimed at providing project leaders with the necessary administrative knowledge to carry out the selected projects satisfactorily.
“This programme should be considered an important tool to help urban local councils carry out projects and initiatives in the framework of the Strategic Plan for the Environment and Development, by improving the quality of life of residents, as well as to implement sustainable initiatives to help the most vulnerable within the community”, stated Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.
The total Norwegian Funds budget for this scheme is €1.2 million, and each project can benefit from a minimum of €25,000 to a maximum of €100,000. The projects selected under the first scheme were those submitted by four local councils, which include those of Ħal Tarxien, Floriana, Ta’ Xbiex and Santa Venera. Between them they were given €435,356.
In the second call, six local councils were selected, which include those of Ħal Tarxien, Paola, Marsa, Birgu, Sliema and Senglea. Between them these six local councils will be funded with €568,300.
