Health Department: Sweets warning: Do not eat

With reference to press release numbers PR 220442, PR 220445 and PR 220455 and in accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that following new information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, mentioned product must not be consumed due to the possibility of contamination with Salmonella. This product is presumably no longer on the market but may still be unconsumed at end customers.

People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 6 and 72 hours after infection. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.  Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.
