Pierre Portelli, the former head of the Nationalist Party’s has said that the party needs to go into ‘forced administration.’
He tweeted on social media, “I have followed closely Bernard Grech’s first moves since the election. He ticked many boxes that I raised in my article, though could have been bolder with the shadow nominations and shrewder with the Party’s financial status. Forced administration must follow.”
Last Sunday PN leader Bernard Grech admitted the party was in debt to the tune of €32 million. Grech went as far as suggesting the party sell off some of its clubs to raise funds.
That suggestion was given the cold shoulder by Frank Debono, a former Nationalist MP and the man who brought down the PN government in 2013 by voting against a finance bill.
He said such a move would be a “major mistake”.
“Każini have been sold in recent years and the issue has not been resolved because debt has increased. Selling każini will not be a solution but a mistake,” Debono wrote on social media.
