The remaining games of the BOV Premiership are building up to a tense and entertaining climax with the title still not decided.
Hibernians maintain their two point lead over Floriana who are six clear of Birkirkara in third place.
Yet, nothing is yet settled.
Tomorrow Hibernians face Gudja Utd. At their best and that is the level required for all the remaining games, Hibs should have too much firepower for today’s opponents.
What could be a crucial game in the title race is the encounter between Birkirkara and Floriana at Ta’Qali today.
These two sides already met in the quarter finals of the Izibet FA Trophy with Floriana getting the better of B’Kara.
A win today for Floriana would see them leapfrog Hibernians into top spot, until tomorrow at least. A draw would edge them closer to Hibs who then could increase their lead with a win over Gudja tomorrow. A win for Hibs would give them a five point advantage with games running out.
Another possibility is that B’Kara win today. That would move them just three points behind Floriana and five behind Hibs. Could a major upset be on the cards. It is mathematically possible but prehaps highly unlikely.
How many times has that been said before.
What ever the outcome this weekend, one thing is for certain. Malta’s football is on the up. Gone are the days when one team would totally dominate with the league done and dusted well before the end of the season.
