A multi-disciplinary clinic equipped with specialized equipment has been inaugurated at the Mellieħa nursing home and will be used by health professionals, including physiotherapists, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, podiatrists, nurses, doctors and geriatricians.
During the opening of the clinic, which was made with an investment of around € 26,000, the Minister for the Elderly and Active Aging Michael Farrugia said that this is another step in the range of services being provided in the homes of the elderly. the elderly, with a view to making them more accessible to the elderly, especially the vulnerable who find it more difficult for them to attend hospital.
The plan is to have such a clinic in every nursing home.
The need for this clinic has long been felt, especially during the pandemic period. The service was provided in the resident’s room, without privacy while now, the clinic will provide a space where the client takes the treatment and talks privately with the professionals.
Minister Michael Farrugia said that the purpose of this clinic is to provide a service to 180 residents in Dar tal-Mellieħa, in a safe and private space, and the plan is that eventually the service will be extended to the residents of ‘Casa San Paolo and Casa Serena in San Pawl il-Baħar as well as for the residents in the community of Mellieħa and the surrounding area.
