Maltese airspace will be closed to Russian airlines,Prime Minister Robert Abela announced on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.
He posted on the social media website, Maltese airspace will be closed to Russian airlines. @Maltagov is taking this action in full solidarity with Ukraine.
Among other steps the government said Malta would be providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Malta will be joining other EU member states in imposing sanctions on key Russian individuals, banks, and companies.
At an emergency meeting of EU leaders it was agreed that a number of Russian banks would be removed from the SWIFT banking system.
