Florinana narrowed the gap to premier leaders Hibernians to just a single point following a 2-1 win over Gzira on Sunday.
Despite having their keeper sent off late in the game, Floriana held out for the three points which leaves them just behind long time leaders Hibernians.
Jan Busuttil set them on their way after only ten minutes and just before the break Ulises Arias made it 2-0 to Floriana.
The last 15 minutes of the match were tense moments for Floriana after goalkeeper Georgi Kitanov was red carded for bringing Toni Kolega down outside the area.
Gzira pulled one back two minutes from time thanks to a Maxuell Maia penalty after Jefferson was brought down by Matias Garcia but it was too late to salvage anything from the game.
A win for Floriana and the chase for the premier trophy well and truly on.
