A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Victim Support Agency and the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society which will lead to more victims of crime being assisted.
The agreement will lead to more cooperation between the two entities and more awareness of the support services available to victims of crime. The MOU will see to it that the assistance is provided more efficiently, as soon as a referral system has been set up where people who have spoken to the foundation and who are eligible for the agency’s service are given assistance without any delay.
In his message, the Minister of Interior, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri explained how the agency is continuing to take initiatives to strengthen the services it provides to the community. He said this agency wants to work closely with non-governmental organizations and other government agencies that already offer important services.
“We have promised that we must put crime victims and those close to them as a priority, so I am pleased that the agency is continuing to strengthen its services to ensure that we help all those in need. More than 116 new cases were referred to the Victim Support Agency in January, including people in need of emotional support, guidance on their rights as well as legal advice from the team of professionals. This clearly shows the need to set up this agency, “said Minister Camilleri.
