Health Minister announces road-map to exit Covid-19 restrictions

As from Monday, valid vaccine certificates will no longer be needed for entry into restaurants, bars, snack bars and każini, Health Minister Chris Fearne said on Friday afternoon.

The minister said based on the current data, if the forecast remains the same, most Covid-19 mitigating measures will be removed by the end of spring.

As from Monday, visiting hours at Mater Dei Hospital are set to be extended, he said. The new times will be published on the hospital’s website over the weekend.

As of 14 February, people with valid vaccine certificates who travel to Malta from dark red countries will have their quarantine period reduced from 14 to 10 days. Third country nationals with work permits in principle will no longer need to quarantine at a hotel but at a fixed residence.

Chris Fearne also announced that the plan is to slash two days of quarantine for primary contacts of positive cases, and therefore these individuals will only be required to quarantine for five days and need a negative test before leaving quarantine. Secondary contacts are no longer required to go into quarantine.
