The Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government, José Herrera, announced that the Local Councils of Hamrun, Sliema and Mellieħa are benefiting from funds of € 355,000 through the funding from the Local Government Division, for the creation of open spaces in the center of towns and villages.
Minister Herrera said that it is really important to create more open spaces in our localities that will lead to a better quality of life. This is part of the ministry’s vision for local councils to continue exploring the possibility of creating open spaces in pedestrian areas in their localities.
He said that through these schemes they are continuing to invest in the quality of the air, health and well-being of the residents in our communities. These open spaces will continue to encourage residents to move out of their homes, be active while socializing more in an urban, safe and accessible environment.
“This scheme is complementing other schemes we have already issued, including playing fields and slide streets, with the aim of providing more opportunities for residents from different locations to have more spaces to recreate, socialize and take care of their well-being. Minister Herrera reiterated.
