Infrastructure Malta rebuilt 220 residential roads in 2021, an average of four roads a week, one more a week than it had completed the previous year.
This was announced by Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg during a press conference held in Triq l-Indipendenza in Żebbuġ.
Minister Ian Borg mentioned how this result means that thousands of families will now be enjoying a better and safer environment. “It must be said that these positive results are being achieved at the same time that massive capital and infrastructural projects have been and are also being carried out around our country such as Marsa Junction, the St. Lucia Tunnels, the belvedere of Għeriexem road, the Qrejten Breakwater and the Central Link which we will be inaugurating in the coming days.”
The Minister referred to the long-term programme being carried out by the agency to embellish roads and other residential areas with new trees, shrubs and plants.
The national programme for better residential roads in Malta is now entering its fourth year. Infrastructure Malta is currently undergoing the reconstruction of more than 100 roads while work on others will begin soon.
In these 220 roads Infrastructure Malta has added or rebuilt more than 58 kilometers of pavements and laid 141 kilometers of new services for the distribution of underground services. In order to complete the reconstruction of these roads, the agency’s contractors used 121,552 tons of asphalt.
