From Monday, 17 January 2022, in Malta it will be mandatory that a person present a valid vaccine certificate to enter restaurants, bars, clubs, snack bars, gyms, cinemas, theatres, casinos and bingo halls, sporting events, pools, spas and saunas and organized events.
This was announced during a press conference by Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne. He was joined by Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci and virologist Chris Barbara.
However, there will be an exemption for children under the age of 12 who can attend these places without the need to show the vaccine certificate, as long as they are accompanied by vaccinated adults.
Pending the entry into force of these protocols, from Monday 27 December, standing organized activities will be prohibited, with the exception of weddings and funerals. This is while the establishments will have to close at one o’clock in the morning, unless the respective license requires the establishment to close earlier. Sporting events can continue, however without spectators.
