Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo announced the introduction of a new scheme to help fishermen recover lost fishing gear.
When a fisherman reports lost gear, he needs to inform the Department of Fisheries of the location where the gear was lost and then the department will detail divers to recover the equipment.
[The recovered gear will then either be return the gear to the fisherman or recycle if beyond use.
This service is funded exclusively through National Funds, and is a testament to the Ministry’s commitment to combating marine pollution, while serving Maltese fishermen
