Nine men, aged between 15 and 20 years, were arrested on suspicion of starting a fire at the former St Philips Hospital in Sta Venera.
They were apprehended by officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit as they were leaving the abandoned building.
The fire was brought under control by members of the Civil Protection Department.
The incident happened at 3pm on Monday afternoon.
