Speaking to journalists ahead of Malta’s World Cup Group H fixture on Friday, national coach Devis Mangia said it is important to respect their opponents but at the same time, Malta’s aim is to play football.
That is Malta’s philosophy: play football and not to park a bus in front of goal
He said everyone wants to keep possession of the ball but just as important is what players do when they do not have the ball.
When asked if Malta could get something from this game, he sounded a word of caution saying that expectations did not automatically mean that Malta had the right to a result.
He was joined by Steve Pisani who said the spirit in the dressing room was very good and although a lot of work had been done on and off the pitch, there was still room for more work to be done.
