The European Commission has approved Malta’s € 316 million Recovery and Resilience Plan.

This was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a news conference in the Upper Barracks, also addressed by the Maltese Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela.

Von der Leyen stated that the Plan submitted by the Maltese Government contains 54% of the initiatives that are of an environmental nature.

"This is one of the most environmentally friendly plans submitted to the European Commission," said Von der Leyen, who noted Malta's ambitious plan for the environment and the core of services on digital platforms.

She continued to praise the Malta Plan and claimed that even in digital initiatives, Malta has put forward more than requested by the European Commission.

For his part, the Prime Minister noted the contribution of the European Union in the fight against the pandemic and stressed that as a result of a joint agreement for the member states, Malta today vaccinated 91% of the population against Covid-19. .

He mentioned how European solidarity is at its best.

Dr Abela said how at this crucial time, our country has kept the economy running through the Covid Wage Supplement, the voucher scheme that has given an economic injection and even the subsidy for businesses on electricity bills. .
