At the De La Rue plant, in Żejtun, on Tuesday evening Prime Minister Robert Abela announced a multi-million dollar investment.
De La Rue will build its largest money printing plant in the world in Malta, an investment which will create one hundred jobs.
The plant on twenty-nine thousand square meters will be a state-of-the-art one and will double production capacity and will be printing with two billion banknotes a year.
This investment was made possible by the relentless work of Malta Enterprise, and the new plant will use energy as efficiently as possible.
The Prime Minister claimed that the pandemic brought a choice for the Government, between austerity and investment.
He stated, “Instead of worrying that government would be embarking on cost-cutting exercises and reducing its investment in the national infrastructure once the crisis is over, firms know that we will be carrying out the most ambitious investment ever in our nation’s industrial infrastructure. ”
