During a conference where an agreement was signed between the Department of Public Works and the Żejtun Parish Church, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg announced that St. Gregory’s Cemetery in Zejtun will be restored and conserved with works implemented by the Department of Public Works.
“When we mention infrastructure, we are not just talking about roads, but spaces, such as these, which are part of this government’s holistic vision for decent, high-quality infrastructure. Our cemeteries deserve all the attention and respect because they are the places to visit or greet any relatives or friends who have left us. Thus, we are committed to giving such spaces the attention and work they deserve, “said Minister Ian Borg.
The project is expected to cost around € 80,000. The work will consist of the restoration and even the replacement of the existing wall and pillars as well as the restoration of the iron railings adjacent to St. Gregory’s Square. In order to make it possible to carry out these works it was necessary to carry out technical studies of the existing wall damage. Historical research has also been carried out on this wall in order to respect the originality of the plant as much as possible during the interventions.
