Four arrested in €2.5 million drugs raid

Anti-Drug Squad Police, assisted by Rapid Intervention Police bUnited Kingdom (RIU), carried out an operation in Burmarrad, following information on drug trafficking.


Four men were arrested in the operation, which led to the discovery of 136 kilos of drugs suspected to be cannabis with astreet value of over € 2.5 million. This haul is the biggest one in the local market by the Police this year.

After several days of observation on the movements of the four people, late on Tuesday afternoon, the police followed a van driving towards the Industrial Estate of Burmarrad. There, the van entered a garage and at this moment the police surrounded the place and entered.


It was here that the investigations by the Police from the Anti-Drug Squad were confirmed, when a large amount of canned olives were found, in which the cannabis was found hidden.


Two Maltese men were arrested at the garage, one a 30-year-old resident of San Ġwann and the other a 26 -year- old resident of Ħamrun. Two other men, a 26-year-old Maltese man and a 43-year-old Englishman were subsequently arrested.


A device for packing and sealing cannabis in bags was lifted from the garage, amounts of a suspected drug cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamine, along with a firearm and ammunition as well as a substantial amount of cash.
