“This was a courageous exercise to make a true, correct and real analysis of the situation of educators, to eventually strengthen the good but also to address where it is needed and to possibly eradicate where there are shortcomings, where there is evil. . This is important because we all have the responsibility of our children, of our children, of the whole country “, said the Minister for Education Justyne Caruana during the opening of a conference that analyzed in detail the challenges facing educators, with the theme, ‘The Challenges that Educators Face’ – The Challenges facing Educators.
“I am here to listen to you because you are the protagonists of the education sector, because I want to act and address what I will hear, because I want to have a strong sector that is not only resilient to the challenges we have today, but to be strong enough to face the challenges ahead, turn them into opportunities, and the resilience we have shown over the past few months is indicative of how much we are able to take the reins, lead and take the reins. good from adverse situations “, added Minister Caruana.
During the conference, the protagonists were educators at all levels of the education sector in government schools, who after a detailed analysis by Professor Mark Borg, gave their opinions, comments and comments. their suggestions. The presentation followed a study commissioned by the Ministry of Education and the teachers’ union to identify the challenges facing educators. Prof. Borg conducted surveys through surveys that were addressed to each sector, administration, secondary school educators, primary school educators, LSEs and KGEs.
At the end of the conference, which was held both with participation in the hall and with a number of educators following and participating virtually, a series of conclusions were presented that emerged from the presentation of Prof. Borg and from the open discussion that was there.
Among other things, the need for more communication between all sectors stood out; the need for greater use of information technology not only in teaching but also in communication; more support from both school and parents; and to have more training for educators. What stood out most at all levels, however, was that there was still a lot of paperwork in the field of education.
Among the comments of those present, it was said that there is a discrepancy in the workload of educators; that there should be a temporary moratorium as a period of consolidation of the reforms and changes introduced in recent months for adapters to adapt; the problem of educators not completing school work and having to take it home with them; the need for educators themselves to be willing to adapt to changes; and there was also a proposal to have curriculum leaders and administrative leaders for teachers to focus on learning and not on the administrative aspect.
Minister Justyne Caruana reiterated her availability to every educator, and reiterated the invitation she made from the very beginning that she is always ready to listen to what educators have to say to work so collectively on this important sector continues to strengthen.
