Infrastructure Malta will be making an investment of € 2.2 million for rehabilitation works on the Għajn Dwieli tunnel which is over 120 years old and is more than 110 meters long.
This was announced by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg during a visit to the tunnel, which is one of the main entrances to the three cities of Cospicua, Senglea and Vittoriosa. . “Our goal is that as the rehabilitation project of 4 main tunnels of our country is nearing its end with an investment of € 10 million, we will now seize this tunnel in order to restore it to its original state. as it deserves, but above all it will also be safer for the drivers who pass by with their vehicles and for the people who are walking through this area ”, said the minister.
Infrastructure Malta is currently undergoing the final preparations so that in a short time it will be possible to start with the restoration of the structures. As part of the work that will be done on this tunnel, cleaning will be done including the wiring. In addition, stormwater catchments, a new lighting concept and a number of other security measures will be upgraded.
