Despite the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, SR Technics’ new aircraft hangar is set to be complete in the coming months.
World-leading MRO service provider SR Technics is set to complete its €44 million project investment in the coming months as works on the new aircraft hangar have now reached 75% completion.
Accompanied by SR Technics CEO Jean-Marc Lenz, Malta Enterprise CEO Kurt Farrugia, and Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli visited the site of the ongoing works. Once completed, SR Technics Malta will increase its headcount to 350 employees.
SR Technics is expanding its operations through the construction of a brand new modern multi-bay hangar facility which also caters for widebody aircraft. The project, over 20,000 sqm will help SR Technics in increasing its capacities to accommodate up to six-narrow-body aircraft at once, for maintenance such as Base Maintenance Checks, modifications, and retrofits.
SR Technics is in fact an engine MRO service provider for the civil aviation sector headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. Despite the impact of the pandemic, the company believes that the aviation industry will return to normality shortly. It highlighted that with the support of its employees in Malta and the support received by the government, SR Technics managed to ensure that this project comes into fruition.
“Whilst the pandemic has negatively affected the aviation sector, it is encouraging to see a leading company like SR Technics moving on with its project. It is to be highlighted that this was possible thanks to the ongoing support offered by the government, and Malta Enterprise during these tough times, and thanks to the hardworking employees. This project is also a symbol of trust in Malta, as a country that attracts companies to invest, set up, and help them grow”, said Minister Miriam Dalli.
SR Technics CEO Jean-Marc Lenz said that: “As a world leading engine MRO service provider, SR Technics has been present with long-term MRO activities in Malta. One of the most challenging investments for the future has been the new hangar, and today we are proudly witnessing its near completion. It will set the foundations for continued high-end quality services we deliver to our customers and open doors for major growth opportunities. We expect to increase our local footprint, the volume of the workforce, and strengthen the customer-centricity attitude of SR Technics Malta resulting in an increased market share. SR Technics is pleased and thankful for the support of the government and Malta Enterprise, especially during these challenging times, and look forward to successfully transfer the activities in the new facilities very soon.”
