Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli and Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo announced a €4 million investment to develop a new family park in Birżebbuġa.
The Bengħajsa Family Park will cover 60,000 metres squared of land, set to be completed by the end of 2023. The project was launched during a press conference in the presence of the Birżebbuġa led by Mayor Joseph Farrugia.
This project is part of the government regeneration plan in Birżebbuġa, set to complement other projects, such as the embellishing of the promenade at Wied il-Buni.
The Bengħajsa Family Park will give Birżebbuġa residents and its visitors a secure open space. A considerable number of trees have already been planted and Parks Malta will continue with the afforestation works at least 1,000 indigenous trees including carob and cypress trees, will be planted.
The park will be equipped with various attractions, including sports, and recreational facilities such as a camping site and a picnic area.
“We want to help give Birżebbuġa a new look with this project. With one project after another, we want to give Birżebbuġa residents what they truly deserve a safe and secures environment which they can enjoy, with their family and friends,” said Minister Miriam Dalli in comments to the press.
She further said that the Bengħajsa Family Park at will include pathways, a fitness area, children’s play area and a cafeteria.
“This park is going to be one of the biggest parks in the south of Malta,” said Minister Dalli.
During the press conference, Minister Clayton Bartolo emphasised that this family park at Bengħajsa is a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment, to have a tourist attraction all over Malta.
“This investment of €4 million goes directly to the people. From an abandoned site, this area will now be regenerated to better south of Malta. As a result of the pandemic, we want to give the Maltese and Gozitans more open spaces for recreational purposes,” emphasised Minister Clayton Bartolo.
