The Ministry of Solidarity and Social Justice, Family and Children’s Rights has already implemented 95% of the 2021 Budget measures, with 17 out of 18 social measures already fully implemented.
It is estimated that a total of 290,000 people have benefited from any of these measures, with the majority of those benefiting from families and pensioners. Expenditure on pensions alone will amount to € 900 million during the year 2021. The increase in expenditure on pensions and social benefits this year will be almost € 60 million. Total expenditure on pensions and social benefits by the end of the year will reach close to € 1.12 billion.
This was announced by Minister Michael Falzon during a press conference during which he expressed his satisfaction not only for the rate of continuation of the measures, but because they are all making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
Minister Michael Falzon said that the total expenditure of this Ministry in 2021 will exceed € 1.6 billion and this means that out of a total expenditure by the Government of € 6.5 billion, the Government will be investing. 54% of this money in the social field and then in people.
“It simply came to our notice then that we were a government with a strong social spirit and a government for the people. We will continue to invest in people because we believe in the potential of each and every one of you. We are a government of social justice, a government of social mobility and above all a government with a social soul. We will continue to help more people, who are at risk of poverty and social exclusion, said Minister Michael Falzon.
