The Cleaning and Maintenance Division will set up a cleaning section to take care of the sanitation of St. Paul’s Bay 24 hours a day.
Through this initiative, which amounts to an investment of € 350,000, a new device will be introduced that will be used continuously in areas such as Burmarrad, Qawra, Bugibba as well as Xemxija.
These details were announced at a news conference by the Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo, in the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection and Public Cleanliness Deo Debattista and the Director General of the Cleaning and Maintenance Division Ramon Deguara.
Minister Clayton Bartolo pointed out that St. Paul’s Bay offers challenges that we need to address in the immediate and long term.
“This locality is home to around 30,000 people, the most populated in the Maltese islands. These numbers exclude the number of tourists who add to the population of this area on a daily basis. Therefore, we felt the need to take a decision with the aim of significantly increasing the regular cleanliness in this place so important for the tourism sector, “said Minister Clayton Bartolo.
He added that this initiative will mean more human resources focused on addressing the challenges facing the residents of St. Paul’s Bay.
Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection and Public Hygiene Deo Debattista explained that this region of San Pawl il-Baħar, Xemxija, Qawra and Buġibba will be benefiting from an investment that meets the € 350,000 to further protect the beautification and cleanliness of this community.
“This allocated money will be spent to set up a new unit within the Cleaning and Maintenance Division, so that new workers and even machinery will be available day and night for any needs that may be needed in this area. the region, ” he said.
