An area that is currently only used as a car park will be transformed into a roof garden in Ħamrun.
This was announced by Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia and Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat during a press conference in Misraħ is-Sebgħa ta’ Ġunju 1919, where the project will be carried out.
As part of the design, the same number of parking spaces will be maintained. A lift will be installed to make it easily accessible to all and it will also be equipped with public toilets.
Vertical landscaping will also be incorporated on the façade of these new structures in order to integrate them in the best possible way with the overall design. The project, worth over €1.5 million, is funded by the National Development and Social Fund and will be carried out by GreenServ, a new implementation arm within WasteServ.
Minister Aaron Farrugia explained that this innovative project will improve the quality of life of residents by offering an open green space with trees and shrubs planted. The Minister spoke in favour of innovative ideas that contribute to greener spaces in high-density urban areas. He said the project aims to improve the quality of life for residents living in this urban area whilst promoting sustainable lifestyles. This space will be offering an alternative place of recreation that is easily accessible.
Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat expressed his satisfaction with the various projects funded through our residency investment initiatives that our communities will benefit from. He explained that this is one of a series of similar investments, with more projects to follow planned in Qormi, Mosta, and Żabbar. He expressed his commitment to continue to safeguard the citizens’ interests, most importantly by ensuring that our country continues to attract foreign direct investment, which is enabling us to invest more in our community.
