Public Service workers today kickstarted the second ‘Insebbħu Pajjiżna’ campaign. The initiative, coordinated by the Office of the Principal Permanent Secretary Mario Cutajar, brings together public officers from various entities to work collectively and contribute to the upkeep of our country.
On Thursday, workers started a general cleaning exercise in residential streets in Qawra, Buġibba and Marsaxlokk. Other groups of workers were engaged in tourist areas in St Paul’s Bay with maintenance work.
The works carried out include the repainting and maintenance of existing railings, cleaning of pavements, replacement of lightbulbs, new painting of traffic islands and central strips, washing of roads, replacement and cleaning of traffic signs, the maintenance of benches and other street furniture, installation of new railings, repairs of rubble and limestone walls, removal of illegal signs and new painting of road markings.
This is the second time that ‘Insebbħu Pajjiżna’ is taking place, after the success achieved last May. On June 4, 2021, on the eve of World Environment Day and as part of the Public Service Week 2021, a number of government entities and departments committed to a memorandum of understanding to make this initiative a regular one.
Since then, local councils have been consulted to identify priorities and areas that require attention. The campaign that started today, and others in the future, will be acting on this consultation so that ‘Insebbħu Pajjiżna’ remains an effective exercise, as based on the memorandum of understanding signed.
The workers involved come from the Cleansing & Maintenance Division, Parks Malta, Ambjent Malta, the Department of Public Works, Enemalta, Transport Malta, and the Foundation for Tourism Zones.
