Park and Ride with 380 spaces and a public transport service that sees over 70 trips per hour
During a visit marking almost a month since the official opening of the Marsa Junction project, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg announced that this infrastructure project will be offering more intermodal transport initiatives namely a 380 space Park and Ride and a public transport service that sees over 70 trips per hour.
Minister Ian Borg opened his speech by saying that through this €70 million investment, the Marsa Junction changed the infrastructure of our country and gave the key and a new breathe to the people of the south.
“We have seen that every cent invested in this project goes to improving the quality of life of the people. Many of the messages I receive thank us for the time we have saved them and for the change that many people are feeling in their lives. It is these messages that make us to continue to work in order to continue serving people. Through these initiatives we are once again promoting the concept of intermodality and further incentivising people to make more use of public transport. Marsa Junction is offering a 380-space park and ride. This is a facility where you can park in this park and ride free of charge and then use public transport to many destinations both in the south and in the north of the country via Bus Stops ‘Xwieni’ and ‘Baċir’”, said Minister Ian Borg.
One can enter the park and ride from the St Lucia flyover, from Sir Paul Boffa Avenue, and from the Marsa Indrustrial Estate. People can use the park and ride for free. The only charge will be for the bus fare.
Through ‘Xwieni’, passengers will benefit from a service where they can use public transport, coming from various localities in the south of Malta for the Valletta route and Mater Dei Hospital. On the other hand, through the ‘Baċir’ route, the public will be able to use public transport for routes such as Senglea, Birgu, Cospicua, Kalkara, Marsaxlokk, Birżebbugia, Santa Luċija, Żejtun, Gudja, Żabbar, Marsascala, Xgħajra, Paola and Tarxien.
