WasteServ’s visitors’ centre in Marsascala to be transformed into an interactive activity centre for children to have fun and learn about waste management and circular economy.
This was announced by Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia, who explained that such initiatives form part of Government’s plan to improve the waste management sector and for the country to shift towards a circular economy.
This centre which forms part of Marsascala Family Park will be transformed into an ECOHIVE Academy where children will learn the why and how of proper waste management. The centre will be divided into different zones, and the four new waste management plants that will form part of the ECOHIVE project will each have a dedicated zone. With the help of modern technology, such as computer tablets and the latest available audio-visual tools, children will be getting a new learning experience and they will also be able to collect points from the various activities throughout the different zones so as it is ensured that they learn hands-on.
Minister Farrugia said that it is important to teach our children about the environment as they will grow up more aware and environmentally conscious citizens. Minister Farrugia said that it is important to motivate our kids to be part of the solution and this interactive centre will do just that whilst making it fun to learn about waste management.
WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca said that WasteServ wants to take a more proactive approach when it comes to its educational role on waste management. Bilocca said that the aim of this educational centre is to support children to become more environmentally responsible through games and other interactive media as they are powerful agents of change. Ultimately, we are working to ensure a better future for our children, so it crucial to have them actively involved as early as possible.
This announcement comes after WasteServ earlier this year launched a new kids’ website, ECOHIVE Kids (https://www.ecohive.com.mt/kids) and a new comic with stories revolving around three fictional characters that take kids on many great adventures while teaching them about the environment and waste separation.
